Workshop on Advances in Forensics and Cyber Security: Opportunities & Challenges

A  technical workshop on “Advances in Forensics and Security: Opportunities & Challenges” was organised by IEEE Nepal  with support from CARD and others at Hotel Crowne Imperial, Ravi Bhawan Heights, Kathmandu on 16th December, 2024, Monday. The session was  organised in collaboration with industry experts from Nepal with technical support from IEEE-Asia Pacific Region.  The cyber revolution has fundamentally transformed the way we approach forensics and security. With rapid advancements in technology, the fields of digital forensics and cybersecurity are now more interconnected than ever. This workshop explored the profound opportunities and pressing challenges posed by this intersection, providing a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and innovation among experts, practitioners, and policymakers. The key objectives of the workshop are
1. Examine Emerging Technologies: Highlight how innovations like artificial intelligence is reshaping forensics, DNA technologies and cybersecurity.
2. Discuss Challenges: Address critical issues such as privacy concerns, ethical dilemmas, and legal complexities in a digitized world.
3. Foster Collaboration: Encourage partnerships between technology developers, law enforcement, forensic scientists, and policymakers to develop robust solutions.
4. Promote Knowledge Sharing: Facilitate the exchange of case studies, research, and best practices to advance the field.

The event featured insightful presentations from IEEE experts and a panel discussion focused on industry-academia collaboration.
Some key highlights:
-Mr. Deepak Mathur, Vice President of Member and Geographic Activities (MGA), IEEE-USA, delivered a presentation on IEEE’s role in technical and professional development.
- Dr. Amit Kumar, Senior IEEE Member, delivering a presentation titled “DNA Forensics: The Biggest Opportunity Since the Cyber Revolution”
- Mr. Roshan Pokhrel from Logpoint discussed cybersecurity trends
The panel discussion of Rabindra Bista, PhD, Dr. Amit kumar, Mr. Deepen Chapagain, Babu R. Dawadi, PhD moderated by Mr. Kumar Pudashine, brought together researchers and stakeholders to explore synergies between industry and academia.
