Composite Action of Brick in-fill Wall in RC Frames under Lateral Load

Ph.D. Candidate: Mr. Prajwal Lal Pradhan

The proposal starts with explaining the common practices of brick-infill walls, over-looking in analytical practices and deviations in the structural responses. The proposal focuses on the importance of composite studies showing current problems and present demands at the background. R/Qs are compounded with the statements under research problem and research questions. The research primarily concerns, the composite behaviors of RC-frames and brick in-fill walls with various degrees of openings under lateral load. Development of simple, efficient and idealized models for analysis is worked out. Parameters like stiffness, strength degradation, shear capacity; non-linear lateral response and drift index at different stages are partly investigated based on computer simulation and modeling. The work plan considers different phases. Completing the micro-modeling in the preliminary works in first phase, construction of models are carried out and its verification have remained to perform in second phase. Application of models to test the composite behavior of in-fill frame will be in third phase. Accordingly research output evaluation will be in the final phase. At the end of research, several simplified models are expected to come out. The study will concentrate on portal frames with in-filled brick masonry wall with fully/partially in-filled with openings at different locations.
