The long-term development objective of CARD is to contribute to the academic development and societal relevance of the courses offered at the IOE by encouraging appropriate human resource development and by promoting the integration of research in academic activities. It will contribute to the development of a professional Centre of Excellence with competence in a few specific area of importance for Nepal. The immediate objectives of CARD are: --To mobilize the highly qualified multi-disciplinary staff and infrastructure for applied research and other    outreach activities such as short term courses, training or workshops so as to create an environment    conductive to further development --To assist in starting post graduate courses so as to induce the development of a research oriented    academic environment from the departmental level --To promote contract research with a focus on specific industrial applications so as to help in the    industrial development of the country as well as to generate research funds --To promote linkages of the IOE with government, non- government, private organizations, international    agencies and encourage outreach activities that help maintain a mutually beneficial and good working    relationship --To interact with the potential donor agencies by highlighting the research strength and capabilities of the    IOE so as to acquire required funding for the fundamental or noble research activities --To contribute to he efficient running of the research programme by adequate planning, monitoring and    evaluation of the research activities
