It is universally accepted that
at a degree granting institution, all faculty members should be
engaged in scholarly activities for its sustainability and development.
Without a climate of research and development activities, a college
of engineering is simply an advanced technical school. That is
the main reason why, the Centre for Applied research and Development
(CARD) was established; to sustain the primary mandate pf the
Institute of Engineering (IOE) to educate and develop new knowledge
through a vigorous and highly visible research environment.
CARD is an autonomous research and development
center within the IOE, Tribhuvan University (TU). Its establishment
on April 15,1994 is a part of the collaboration program between
IOE/TU and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology,
University of Trondheim through funds made available by Norwegian
Universities' Committee for Development Research and Education
(NUFU).
CARD thrives to establish a culture of research
and development leadership at the IOE. It shall support all kinds
of scholarly activities: fundamental research, applied research
development, contract research to government, non-governmental
and international agencies. It capitalizes on the wide range of
multi-disciplinary in-house expertise and capabilities of the
IOE.
