ABOUT THE WORKSHOP |
NUFU Project on Post Graduate Research Collaboration at Institute of Engineering (IOE), Tribhuvan University (TU) and Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) started in 2002 with the assistance of Norwegian Government through Norwegian National Committee for Development for Research and Education (NUFU). The main objectives of the project is to consolidate and further enhance teaching and research capabilities at IOE, to offer research oriented doctoral program and to develop IOE as a Centre of Excellence for research and teaching. Centre for Applied Research and Development (CARD) at IOE is the main executing unit of the project.
The project’s major task is to strengthen the research environment at IOE. After establishing an institutional framework for quality assurance of doctoral research in terms of relevance and academic standard, twelve qualified IOE staff were formally admitted for doctoral study in the various fields in November 2003. The project now ends on December 2007. To maintain academic standard and the necessary supervision, IOE appointed one main supervisor from Nepal, one co-supervisor from the region and one co-supervisor from Norway for each candidate. Most of the candidates are expected to complete their study within 2007. Thesis writing has been started by eleven candidates. Some of them have completed thesis writing and already submitted draft to the IOE for the examination.
To disseminate the research results, share the findings of the research and get feedback from the international/national experts, Centre for Applied Research and Development (CARD), IOE jointly with NTNU, Norway is organizing a workshop on “NUFU Supported Workshop on Doctoral Research at the Institute of Engineering” on 3-4 October, 2007 at the Himalaya Hotel, Kathmandu, Nepal.
